Giovanna holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Milan-Bicocca (Italy) in CO-partnership with EHESS- École des hautes études en sciences sociales (Paris, France) and is now a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Milano-Bicocca.
She is currently working on a research project on ICT experiences and practices among asylum seekers and refugees in Italy. Previously, she conducted research on urban video making in Douala, Cameroon, and Lagos, Nigeria. She also studied the production, circulation, and consumption of Nollywood video films among Nigerian migrants in Northern Italy. Her main research interests include: popular culture, visual culture, migration, aesthetics and communication strategies.
Outside the academia, she works as a social worker with African and Asian asylum seekers, providing them immediate aid and planning and implementing programs which assisted them towards self- sufficiency and community integration.
